A floral spot known for its rich history

Chiryu Park's Japanese irises were bestowed upon the park three times in 1956, 1957, and 1960 by Meiji Jingu Shrine and include 60 varieties cherished by the late Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken. The flowers bloom into colors of purple and white, drawing in numerous sightseers. The blossoms are available to enjoy anytime during the Japanese Iris Festival, however based on the recent early blooming, mid- to late May has been the peak time in past years.
Next-door Chiryu Jinja Shrine, also known as "Chiryu Daimyojin", is famous as one of the three great shrines of the historic Edo period's Tokai Road. It is also home to a two-story pagoda recognized as a national important cultural property and the stone lantern which stands next to where the Chiryu Post Town's toiyaba administrative building once stood.
