Okazaki-City Okazaki Castle Ieyasu Summer Festival
(Okazaki Joka Ieyasu-Ko Natsu Matsuri)
Date : | Aug 11, 15; Sep 3, 10, 23 |
Okazaki’s biggest summer event at venues all over the city!
The Okazaki Castle Ieyasu Summer Festival is a famous festival beloved by the citizens of Okazaki City for as long as it's been around. This year's theme is "Dance the Ebisukui Dance, Parade the Gomangoku Portable Shrine, and Bang the Miso Roku Taiko Drums!"
The people of Okazaki will be commending their local hero and arguably the most famous hero of Japan—Tokugawa Ieyasu—through this summer festival and also by performing the Ebisukui Dance as a new cultural custom. The Ebisukui Dance became a topic of conversation after debuting on NHK's historical drama, "Do Suru, Ieyasu? [What Are You Going to Do, Ieyasu?]", about the hero born in the City of Okazaki. The comical dance mimics fisherman scooping up shrimp and was used to relieve the nerves of the Mikawa region's warriors before battle.
