Osu Kannon Temple is located in the middle of the Owari region's four Kannon Temples (Arako Kannon Temple, Jimokuji Kannon Temple, Ryusenji Kannon Temple, and Kasadera Kannon Temple), and puts on a Setsubun Festival celebrating the beginning of spring by the lunar calendar.
During the festivities, for JPY 3,000, anyone can get up on the special stage and throw soy beans as far as they can in the temple premises. Throwing beans is one of the keynotes of the festival, said to drive away evil, and is the first thing that comes to mind when the Japanese hear the festival's name, making it an integral event to participate in if possible.
The bean throwing ritual begins after a treasure ship named the Osu Maru is paraded around carrying the seven gods of fortune from Eisho Park to Osu Kannon Temple in the afternoon.
