Chiryu Float Bunraku and Karakuri

Records of this event as a festival of Chiryu Shrine remain from the Edo period (17th century). It is the only festival in Japan in which doll joruri performances and karakuri puppet shows are given from the top of floats. One of the 33 Japanese festivals added as joint entry “Yama, Hoko, Yatai, Float Festivals in Japan” to the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage for Humanity of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on November 30th, 2016.
