Bunraku and narrative music performances atop a parade float!

The Chiryu Festival takes place on May 2 and 3 at Chiryu Jinja Shrine and the surrounding area as a traditional custom taking place since the Edo period. The Main Festival and an Interval Festival are respectively held every other year with the Main Festival taking place on odd-numbered years by the Western calendar.
Bunraku, with human-operated puppets, and Karakuri, with mechanized puppets, theater performances designated as national important intangible cultural properties are performed atop elaborate parade floats decorated with flowers, the puppets, and other festive fittings.
