"Janokuchi Hanabi," Fireworks With a Tragic Romantic Legend

Toyoishi Shrine, located on the eastern coast of the Chita Peninsula, is home to this festival based on the dramatic legend of an impossible romance between a dragon's daughter and a mortal man. The "Snake-Mouth Fireworks" (Janokuchi Hanabi) is mounted on a beautifully decorated float and goes spewing fire around the streets, making for a magnificent and awesome sight. Around 100 different fireworks are used during the procession.
